What Is The Purpose Of A Chronograph Watch?
The purpose of a chronograph watch was to combine the watch and the stopwatch to create a better timekeeping tool. So instead of having to take two pieces of equipment, you now only need a chronograph watch strapped around your wrist to access a stopwatch with just the press of the button.
The chronograph we have come to know was first created for keeping track of the duration of horse races and has since evolved into what we know it as today. Chronograph watches these days feature the ability to track time in different ways, so whether you’re tracking minutes, seconds or hours there’s a watch with the perfect function for you.
Not only can you track the time, but you can also measure speed with your chronograph. If you’re up for doing some quick maths, the formula for working out your speed is to measure your distance travelled and divide it by the time taken for you to travel that distance. There you have it, speed measured without any need for special tools.
How To Use A Chronograph Watch
To activate the subdials on a chronograph watch, you will need to press the pushers (buttons) on the side of the case. These will function as start, stop and reset.
Step 1: Get confident with the functions of your watch, and ensure you’ve set the time accurately. Locate the buttons, which are generally on the right side of the watch case.
Step 2: Start the chronograph by pressing the button at the 2 o’clock position. This will start the stopwatch function.
Step 3: Stop the chronograph by pressing the same button located at the 2 o’clock position.
Step 4: Reset the chronograph by pressing the second button which is located at the 4 o’clock position.
Step 5: Check your watch to see the time elapsed during the event you are keeping track of.
