If you’re looking to set the day, date & time on your new Citizen watch, you’ll be happy to know the process is pretty simple.

I'll be going through the most accurate method, which is applicable to most Citizen watches, including Citizen Eco-Drive watches and any Citizen with a day or date function.

Keep in mind, not every watch is the same, but this process can be replicated on most watches with a day and date calendar.

Overview:

How to Set the Day and Date on a Citizen Watch

First of all, with any calendar watch, you should avoid changing the day or date between 9:00PM and 4:30AM, as this can damage the watch movement.

Now, let’s get into changing the date. First, you’ll need to pull out the crown found on the side of the case.

The crown on a calendar watch has two positions (chronograph watches may have three), and you’ll want to pull it out just one, into the first position. You will feel a click when the watch crown is in the first position.

From there, you can turn the crown away from you to change the day of the week, and towards you to adjust the date.

In order to correctly set AM and PM time, you’ll need to move the day wheel to one day before the current. So, if it’s Friday, you will change it to Thursday. You will need to do the same for the date, if it’s the 28th, set it to the 27th.

Once that’s done, you’ll need to wait until the seconds hand reaches the 12 o’clock marker, and then pull the crown out again into the second position (or the furthest crown position).

The seconds hand should stop, and you’ll be able to freely move the hour and minute hands by turning the crown.

Now, because you’ve left the calendar back one day, you’ll be able to move your hands forward until the date changes to the current one.

As it changes, you’ll know that you are currently in AM time. If your desired time is in the afternoon, you can move the hour hands passed 12 again and into PM time.

Once you’ve set your time, you can line your watch up with an accurate clock and press the crown in as the minutes change.
