As someone who’s always loved field watches, my daily companion has long been a Seiko 5 Automatic. It’s showing the marks of daily wear, but that patina is part of its charm. When I spotted the Citizen Eco‑Drive AW5000‑24E at a great price, I jumped at it.
The Eco‑Drive quartz movement offers a reliable alternative to my Seiko 5 — solar powered, accurate, and maintenance‑free. It’s rugged, legible, and comfortable, everything I want in a field watch.
It also complements my Citizen NH8350 Aviator.
For me, the AW5000‑24E isn’t about replacing my Seiko 5, but about adding a dependable watch to my collection. It’s a watch I can trust every day, and one that proves Citizen’s Eco‑Drive technology is still one of the best values in watchmaking.
This watch offers decent value for money, with beautiful visibility and luminous hour markers, and the Eco-Drive quartz movement. However, the strap feels a bit small.

Absolute cracker of a watch. I recently bought a Seiko SSK-001K gmt after seeing it rated highly by Nico Leonard - but it isn’t really a wear-it-to-work kind of watch. A colleague had recently bought a Citizen Tsuyosa and suggested I give some of their other watches a look for a possible daily. The AW-5000 is understatedly stylish watch in a package that doesn’t discourage daily use and the subsequent wear and tear. The lume isn’t as bright as the Seiko and the date window could use a cyclops as it is quite small but it is a worthy addition to any collection. I wouldn’t hesitate to give this watch a 5-star rating.
Very happy with my purchase
I've got an 8" wrist, and the size is perfect. I wouldn't want to go any smaller. The strap was very stiff initally, but has softened after a couple of weeks. I'm on the second last hole.
The black dial really sets off the orange accents. I will get an orange strap for a different look. Great value.

I had the AW5005-12X previously.
Unfortunately according to my sources, this model is no longer available.
My preference would certainly be AW5005-12X as in my opinion, much easier to read due to watch face colouring.
Smart looking everyday watch that I picked up on sale for under $200. Love the field watch face with large clear numbers and the 43mm case sits nicely on my wrist. So far the movement has kept time after 2 weeks of having it. My only gripes are that date window that is a fraction on the small side (maybe black digits on white background would have been more legible) and the lumes on the face are only at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 marks, but I can live with that.
This is a fantastic watch, easy to read and very comfortable on the wrist. Easy to read in low light even without my glasses.
I would recommend this watch to those who's sight isn't the greatest.
