Ever thought the regular Seiko 5’s were a touch too large? Well, Seiko have released a new line of Seiko 5’s with a 38mm case size that should hopefully solve that problem.

The Seiko 5 38mm

The SRPK31, 33 and 35K are regular Seiko 5’s with the regular 4R36 movement, the same rotating bezel, crown and everything – the only difference is the size! Seiko states these are mens watches, but due to their smaller size I’d really classify these as unisex. Wear whatever size you want, these are just going to look better on a smaller sized wrist.

These are not limited editions or anything so I really hope this is just a new line for Seiko that they can build and expand on, because I really appreciate the smaller size. I own a full sized Seiko 5 and sometimes it does feel a little big on my wrist, which measures about 16cm circumference.

Here’s a comparison between the 41.5mm Seiko 5’s and the new 38’s – as you can see it is a fair bit smaller! You wouldn’t ever think 3.5mm would be such a big difference but there you go!

Colour Variations

Right now there are 4 different colours available in these models, with this orange one being the SRPK35K, what I love about this model is the gold coloured numbers in the bezel and of course that orange dial which just bursts with colour! A cream dialled variant with a grey bezel is available in the SRPK31K and finally this lovely teal model in the SRPK33K is available. There is one other model in the SRPK29K which unfortunately we don’t have here today, but it’s a black dialled version, pretty normal.

Are you going for a colourful version or are you more of a fan of the understated models?

My favourite out of the three has to be the teal model here. I love the pop of colour and the contrast between the dial and the bezel, it really feels like something special. Another little detail I enjoy is the gold hands which also work to elevate the piece. This detail is actually shared with the orange-dialled model but seems to be overshadowed by the similar-coloured dial.
