The O.G. that is the CasiOak reference GA2100-1A1. This changed the game for G-SHOCK watches, propelling it into a market space that was, before it, unbeknownst to almost everyone. It combines an iconic look with a much friendlier and accessible price tag. When it was released it was met with enthusiasm and aplomb. And even after sticking around all these years, it continues to be a staple for both enthusiasts and collectors alike. You’d be hard-pressed to find anything that can come close to the CasiOak for sheer appeal and value-for-money. With all the new references you’d be forgiven if you had forgotten about the original. The Seiko Prospex ‘Hulk” Solar Diver is another fantastic offering of 2023. It combines a very well-known aesthetic with Seiko’s infamous value-for-money accessibility to create a package that is hard to look past. The Seiko Prospex ‘Hulk” Solar Diver, as the name implies, is a solar-powered watch, meaning irrespective of winding, battery life or movement, it will still be ticking along. Plenty of positive qualities make the Seiko Prospex ‘Hulk” Solar Diver a definitive winner of 2023.
G-SHOCK CasiOak Steel GM2100-1A
This is the last CasiOak we’ll feature on this list. And it’s perhaps the coolest. This is the stainless steel CasiOak, reference GM2100-1A. These were an absolute hit when they were released, and they continue to ride that unrelenting wave. This particular reference features a silver and black aesthetic which works really well with the overall look of the CasiOak. The case is nicely brushed, as is the dial. And I love that it has been paired with a resin band instead of a steel bracelet (which would definitely have made it extremely heavy). The G-SHOCK CasiOak Steel is the more luxurious and high-end variant of the G-SHOCK that is a touch more costly but still well within many peoples’ reach.

Seiko 5 SRPD61K
Seiko 5 watches have been featured in many different variations and forms. It’s become a true classic, a beautiful representation of the working-class mechanical watch. It’s easy to wear, super functional and durable enough to handle the best and the worst that life has to throw at it. And here it is in perhaps one of its coolest forms, the reference SRPD61K. This particular model features a stainless steel case and bracelet with a soft green-teal dial and bezel. I really like this shade of green, which differentiates itself from the mass of green-coloured watches that have been released over the past few years. One of the nicest watches of 2023 for sure.
